During the Pre-World War II, there was no Barangay called East and West Balabag but it was just Barrio Balabag. When World War II broke up, the road was constructed bound for Barrio Balugo and Palinpinon which in turn divided Barrio Balabag into two (2); the East Balabag and West Balabag.
This two (2) Barangay lies across the road going to Barangay Balugo and Barangay Palinpinon so the area is called “BALABAG” meaning “running across” anything.
Barangay East Balabag is just an ideal perimeter plain area having 155.6 hectares with its clay loam soil. Geographically bounded at East Balabag, Talay Dumaguete City, West is the Provincial road bound for Barangay Balugo/Palinpinon, South is Provincial road to Dumaguete City and North is Barangay Balugo.
